What is a rolling gang sheet?

It is YOUR pallet for your gang sheet. The gang sheets are 22” or 25” in width and they max out at 360” (30’). If your designs are longer than 30 feet, then a new gang sheet starts, and so on.

Can I order just one sheet of any length?

Yes, there is no minimum order – our gang sheet builder creates a maximum of 30’ long sheets and rolls over into the next sheet if needed. You are only billed for the length of film you create.

What should I choose, 22” or 25” wide?

Standard DTF widths are 22” wide. However, you cannot get two 12” wide designs side-by-side on a 22” wide film – this is why we offer 25” wide film. Nations DTF transfers are vibrant and the color matching is spot on. We use four Color Drop DTF printers and print with 9 colors – CMYKRGVO+W. The added Red, Green, Violet and Orange make all the difference.

What do I need to apply the DTF transfers?

All you need is a capable heat press. We say capable because as they age, heat presses wear out and the heat is not dispersed evenly. No weeding is necessary.

What is your recipe for applying the transfers?

Our film is instant hot peel. For best results press the transfers 285 F for 10-12 seconds using light pressure; if you have a pneumatic press, we suggest 33 psi. For ultimate feel and performance, we suggest you peel the film, then press again for 10-12 seconds using a protective sheet – try a tea towel for great texture and feel.

What fabrics work best with DTF transfers?

Any fabric that is not treated with a water repellent material. DTF transfers often fail to stick to synthetic, coated, or moisture-retaining materials such as nylon, waterproof jackets, untreated polyester, and rain-resistant gear.

How durable are DTF transfers?

DTF transfers are highly durable and can last for 50 to 100+ wash cycles, often lasting as long as the garment itself when applied correctly. They are known for resisting cracking, peeling, and fading due to their flexible, stretchy nature and strong adhesive.

Deeper dive into artwork requirements.

Key Requirements for Optimal DTF Artwork:

  • File Format & Background: Use transparent PNGs or vector files (AI, EPS, PDF). Ensure there is no white background or box around the design.
  • Resolution & Size: Set files to 300 DPI at the exact size intended for printing. Low-resolution files will appear pixelated, and scaling up small images causes poor quality.
  • Colors & Transparency: Design in RGB color mode for better color vibrancy. Avoid soft, semi-transparent, or feathered edges; use hard edges to prevent white ink halos.
  • Details & Thickness: Avoid extremely thin lines. For best results, use bold text and solid shapes, as this feels less stiff and lasts longer.
  • Vector vs. Raster: Use vector files for logos and typography for perfect scaling. Use high-res raster (PNG) for complex, detailed graphics or photos.
  • Halftones for Fades: To achieve soft, gradient, or faded effects without solid, heavy ink, use halftones (dots).

Minimum line weight for DTF printing

The minimum recommended line weight for DTF printing is generally 4 points (1.5 mm or .05"). Lines thinner than this may fail to adhere properly, leading to broken, peeling, or missing, elements after washing.
* For best results and high durability, aim for at least 4 points.

  • Experience

The people at Nations DTF know their stuff - as an owner of a DTF printer, I am caught between production and sales. I find it hard to do both. Without sales, there is no production, so I decided to focus on sales and outsource our printing to Nations DTF. For me, it is better to outsource our transfer production versus trying to keep my printer running.
